Simon Wilson Stephens

BACP Registered Counsellor & Psychotherapist.

About Me

I believe all people have the innate skills, strengths and potential to live rich and meaningful lives. However life can be unpredictable and complicated. We sometimes face situations where it’s hard 'to see the wood for the trees’. We get stuck in patterns and behaviours that interfere with our ability to grow. Depression, anxiety, grief, loss, substance abuse, addiction, adoption, relationship difficulties, divorce, and the many other challenges of our fast-paced and demanding lives, can create uncomfortable stressors in us all.

Psychotherapy is an important way to help us discover our natural ability to reflect, to heal and to live healthy, fulfilling lives.

I am a qualified BACP registered counsellor and engage with clients using a Humanistic approach combining the Person-Centred Approach, Transactional Analysis and Gestalt Therapy. I begin with each individual by creating a safe and welcoming environment where trust is built. I have a warm, non-judgmental approach that provides an opportunity for us to address both short and long terms goals, crisis situations, and long-term underlying issues. We can talk explore current life circumstances and choices that may be creating difficulties.

It may be that uncovering past trauma and challenges we can better understand present reactions. Through the revisiting of difficult stories in a safe environment clients can re-define their relationship with their own history, change their life patterns and move forward in a more meaningful and satisfying way.

My time with clients provides an opportunity for each individual to understand themselves better, create new life scripts and sustainable coping mechanisms for the future.

The working alliance lies at the heart of the relational therapeutic work with my clients. A holistic, collaborative partnership, working together to develop realistic goals and authentic change.

I work one-to-one with individual adults in short-term counselling (six to twelve sessions) or on a long-term, open-ended therapy basis. I am experienced working with clients from a range of ages, socio-economic class, race, cultural and sexually diverse backgrounds. I have experience providing one-to-one counselling in a variety of settings including private practice, an NHS Practice in South London, a school in North London and for non-profit counselling services. I have also worked in a Central London Rehab supporting people with addiction through the 12 Step Addiction Programme.

For the last 20 years I have been a passionate and active advocate for improving awareness around mental health issues.

My ongoing supervision and training as a Humanistic Psychotherapist allows me to maintain high professional standards and I adhere to the BACP Ethical Code of Practice.

Please feel free to contact me by phone or email if you have any questions or if you’d like to make an appointment for an initial session.
