About me
I am a fully trained Integrative Counsellor with a Diploma in Counselling from the Minster Centre in London. This is my second career as my background is in HR and hospitality. I work at Kensington Counselling Rooms on Fridays out of a cozy comfortable room with natural light and calming colourways. I can also offer online sessions via Zoom for clients who find it more convenient, don’t live in London or just prefer it perhaps due to neurodivergence.
My approach
My approach is integrative, so I draw on different theories and ways of working but I believe that at the heart of all therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. I aim to provide a safe, non-judgemental, nurturing space in which to talk and explore your feelings, thoughts and actions and so develop a better understanding of yourself and others.
“Gradually, painfully, the individual explores what is behind the masks he presents to the world, and even behind the masks with which he has been deceiving himself”. Carl Rogers ‘On becoming a person’
You might be struggling with grief, anxiety, depression, unhealthy behaviours or low self-worth. Or perhaps you are at a crossroads in your work or a relationship that you would like the time and help to think about. Some people come to therapy with very specific goals and other people have more broad or general needs. Either is fine.
Some issues that I have helped clients with in the past include (but are not limited to) childhood trauma and abuse, anxiety, depression, domestic violence, bereavement, relationship issues, low self-esteem and caring for neurodivergent children.
What to expect
Sessions are weekly and last 50 minutes. I offer both long and short term therapy depending on your needs and desires. In the first session I will ask more questions than usual in order to get an idea of your history, your relationships, work and what has brought you to therapy at this time. These initial sessions give you a chance to see how well you feel we connect and if you believe we are a good fit.
I know that it can be daunting embarking on therapy for the first time or finding a new therapist so I offer a free 15 minute zoom or phone call so that you can ask questions, hear a bit more about me and discuss what you would like to get out of therapy. Please give me a call or send me an email if you would like to set this up. You can also find more information on my website.
“The therapist’s role…is to provide the patient with a secure base from which he can explore the various unhappy and painful aspects of his life, past and present, many of which he finds difficult or perhaps impossible to think about and reconsider without a trusted companion to provide support, encouragement, sympathy and on occasion, guidance”. John Bowlby ‘A Secure Base’
